Philadelphia’s Pre-SXSW Mixer @ National Mechanics
Filed under: Uncategorized
Headed to Austin, TX next week for SXSW (South by Southwest)? Going for the interactive, film, or music portion? Worried that you don’t know a soul from Philly who’s going as well?
Are you a SXSW Newbie who’s looking for someone to show you the ropes so you don’t find yourself (and your iPhone battery) totally burned out on day 2 of the festival?
FEAR NOT!
We’re hosting a pre-SXSW Mixer at National Mechanics on Tuesday, March 10th starting at 7pm. Nothing extravagant, just a place for the Philly scene to converge, pre-game a bit, and meet some of their fellow conference-goers, and swap pro-tips on the experience.
If you’ve never been to National Mechanics (you’re crazy and) it’s on 3rd, just below Market Street. Big stone columns. You can’t miss it!
Follow up with TechKaraokePHL, Cogeoke Practice Edition.
TechKaraoke is a tradition passed down from generations of nerds (ok, a bunch of nerds in NYC) who have an extreme longing to sing poorly in front of an audience, and is also the name we’ve given to the Karaoke night that goes on at National Mechanics every Tuesday at 9pm. Why is this an important juxtaposition to our Happy Hour SXSW Mixer? Because at SXSWinteractive09, Happy Cog is thowing a Karaoke Competition and we need to practice! Come support some of your local Philadelphians who are competing, including Haveboard, TommyBGoode, and of course yours truly. P.S. We still need votes. Especially me.
Birthday Party Wrapup
We’ve all got tons to do this morning after a long holiday weekend, but we all wanted to share a brief thank you to everyone who contributed and came out to our 1 year birthday party. We all had a blast. There are so many people to thank, from our 8-bit musical performers (check them out again at the upcoming IgnitePhilly2), to the crew that shot and edited our video walkthrough, the staff at Triumph, everyone who came in from out of town, and everyone who’s showed us love along the way.
From the bottom of Geoff and my hearts, thank you.
It’s been a helluva year. Let’s make the next one even better!
In the mean time, enjoy photos and some video from the party.

IndyHall T-Shirts: Birthday Edition Designed by You!
The artwork created by Johnny Bilotta for the IndyHall website has made the rounds: first, this website. Then, IndyHall business cards. Since then, we’ve had a few editions of the IndyHall t-shirt as well as the recent addtion of a batch of mugs! And while we LOVE Johnny’s design, we know that a year later, it may be time to incorporate the stylings of someone new!
The IndyHall birthday is a week away, and we thought that it’d be awesome to have a community-contributed birthday edition of our t-shirt. So between now and Wednesday night at midnight, we’re accepting submissions for ideas. You can download the current shirt design EPS for Illustrator, or PSD for Photoshop.

We need the back of the shirt available for sponsor logos, but any area of the shirt currently occupied by the current design in the template is fair game. We’d love to see your remix of our logo, to the tune of “Happy First Birthday” or something of that nature. Our favorite, both visually and creative concept, will be printed this weekend along with the sponsor logos on the back and will be handed out for free (thanks ChoiceShirts for donating the shirts!) to the first 50 people to arrive at the Party on Saturday Sunday, and the artist’s work will live on in this commemorative edition tee.
Upload your designs below, and we’ll see everyone this weekend!
IndyHall Birthday Party ChipIn Update!
On Tuesday we announced the details for our 1 year birthday party. Much like the RipIt/iSepta launch party, we’re turning to the community with a whole slew of sponsorship levels.
We’ve had our first round of contributers, and we wanted to thank them! In chronological order of contributions:
Reed Gustow – $100
Dwight Miller – $10
Tony Bacigalupo – $25
Robert Hall/Feasible Impossibilities – $100
Maya McGee/Chimera Travel – $100
Blake Jennelle/Anthillz – $100
That puts a nice dent in our goal, but we’ve still got a ways to go! Check out our sponsorship levels, find one that fits for you, and help spread the word!
Post-Holiday Cream Cheese Session
Calling all drifting designers, roaming coders and itinerant entrepreneurs. Join a few of the IndyHall crew on Tuesday for a highly-caffeinated post-holiday Cream Cheese Session at Higher Grounds Cafe on North Third St in Northern Liberties (631 N 3rd St — Map). Higher grounds is a computer-friendly cafe, with lots of outlets, reasonably sized tables, and fairly reliable internet access.
All are welcome! Coworking starts when the first person arrives (probably around 8am), and ends when the last person leaves. As always, we’ll also be coworking digitally via the IndyHall campfire chatroom if anyone wants to join in from afar.
If you think you’re going to stop by, drop a comment on this post. You can also follow our new @CreamCheese twitter account for the latest info. Hope to see you there.
Closed for the Holiday Weekend – Monday 5/26/08
Filed under: Uncategorized
Just a quick note, our office will be closed this upcoming Monday in observation of the Memorial Day weekend.
Full time members are still able to opt to come in, if they like, but non-keyholding members should be aware that we can not guarantee that anyone will be in the office.
Not like you should be, either. Go find a bar-b-q or something! Or come help me finish moving out of my apartment.
Just kidding about helping me move.
From the whole family at IndyHall, we hope everyone has a wonderful holiday weekend.
IndyHall T-Shirts for Sale – It’s about time!
We still owe shirts to a bunch of members who renewed but we haven’t seen yet. I know, I’m a slacker. I’m back on it, we’ll be announcing their availability very very very soon. Promise!
In the mean time, for those of you who haven’t renewed or aren’t in the Philly area, we’ve very, very excited to announce the availability of t-shirts for anyone to purchase!
Announcing IndyHall Schwag: $19.95/each
| Women’s Tee (Moss) » | Men’s Tee (Army Green) » | Men’s Tee (Black) »![]() |
We make a couple of bucks on each of these shirts, and like every other line for income for IndyHall, that’s money that goes directly into creating more value for our members and the entire Philadelphia community that we touch.
If you order 3 or more shirts at a time (and not just IndyHall shirts…ANY shirts on choiceshirts.com), the shipping is waived.
Also, do us a favor when you get yours and put it up on flickr and tag it “indyhall” so it will show up in our photo stream up to, or email them to my first name [at] indyhall [dot] org.
I know I can’t wait to start seeing these shirts pop up in places I’ve never been. I’m sure we’ll run a “furthest distance from IndyHall” shirt contest at some point, so get ahead of the curve and grab one today.
