Be a part of history, attend the first official IndyHall think tank
Filed under: Events, Independents Hall
For a while now, those of us who have been a part of the Indy Hall have been in on a little secret; Independence Hall attracts the best and the brightest of the blogging/web-dev/interactive community. Well, somebody blabbed. The secret is out and a major Application Service Provider (ASP) wants in.
Aesoponline.com is an ASP “that automates the process of filling schedule openings, including instances when a replacement of an essential person is required due to an absence” or basically a sub manager for huge school districts around the world.
Here’s where we come in: Aesoponline.com has over 5 million hits a month from 250,000 unique users who hit their login page, a number which is expected to triple by October. Theres a lot of opportunity to harness that traffic, and one idea to monetize this traffic they are creating an online publication for K-12 Educators, essentially a lifestyle site for teachers, substitutes, and school administrators. The problem is they don’t know on-line publications, they don’t know how to create a community, they think ‘blog’ is a dirty word. In short, they desperately need our insight and advice.
On Friday August 17th at 7pm, our new Independents Hall home will transform into a technology Think Tank.
Pizza and drinks will fuel a Brain Storm the likes of which has never been seen in Philly since the deceleration of Independence. Please let us know if you plan on coming so we know how much Pizza to buy, email david.speers@gmail.com
Afterwards we’ll all make the pilgrimage to National Mechanics ($2 Lagers) to celebrate our the First Week in our new home.

our home is official
Maybe this announcement is unofficial, considering this tweet was sent moments after the actual ink hit the paper. Either way, 32 Strawberry Street is officially our home, I’m going to pick up the keys in just over an hour. Starting on Monday of next week, we’ll be at the space almost every day getting set up! Drop us a note if you’d like to stop by to check it out. There’s a lot to do to make this space ours…furniture is only step one!
In the mean time, I’m taking a 3 day weekend vacation for my Anniversary, so don’t expect any activity from me until Monday. 100% unplug after I press publish on this post.
One more round of congratulations to everyone who helped us get this far. It’s absolutely incredible, and I know that we have many more great things to come.
Cheers!

Membership Meetup Fun!
Last night’s meetup totally rocked. Over a dozen people came out to schmooze for the evening, and between the people who brought checks and contracts to the event and people who we’ve handled things with digitally, we’re at 15 paid members, with members in every level of membership we offer, and more people submitting membership agreements daily!
For those of you who like to hear me talk as much as I like to talk, Roz took a video of me talking about where we are, and a little of how we got here, since this week is historical for our organization. Check out the video!
we’re ready for memberships!
Last week I relaunched the site but we had a bunch of things still in the works for membership. Notably, a membership agreement, as well as some kinks in our credit card taking system. As of 10 minutes ago, we have a membership agreement and application, as well as a cleared up Google Checkout system!
What does that mean? It means all of you who emailed me and said you were going to be taking on a membership will be getting a note from me! Let me know how you’d like to handle the delivery of the agreement as well as the payment: to help the process, I’ll be at Triumph from 6-9 on Wednesday night (8/8/2007) hanging out, having beers, and taking memberships.
If you haven’t emailed yet about joining up, you’re hardly out of time! Come on down to Triumph, send us a note, or plan on swinging by the space once we’re open!

Independents Hall V2.0

Welcome to the new, improved Independents Hall website. This site is much more community oriented than the last, in so much that it actually has, GASP, a blog! Much like the recently popularized PhillyGeeks.net, this will also serve as a group blog. If you sign up and are a member of Independents Hall, I’ll moderate you up to an editor so you can post yourself! Next up will be individual profile pages…but all in due time.
I’ve also condensed the membership models into a pricing page. An FAQ based on previous documentation and use cases are in the works, if anyone wants to help with that let me know.
Also, the footer of this page includes a linkroll…everyone who has currently agreed to any level of membership who has a website that I know of has been linked. If you’d like a different name or link, just let me know, and if I missed you it’s because I didn’t know what your preferred URL was.
This blog, along with the google group, will continue to be a source of news, and I expect there to be quite a bit of news in the next few weeks leading up to the opening of the space.
I’m absolutely wound (like I needed to be) on where we’ve gotten ourselves in 5 months. Amazing, amazing things to come. Viva Independents Hall!
