Posted by Alex Hillman on 02-26-2008 under Announcements, Independents Hall

Before we get into what’s coming up, a quick announcement. We had a Wordpress workshop on the IndyHall calendar for this upcoming Saturday that we haven’t released details for yet because, frankly, the program isn’t quite ready. Rather than rush into this, the guys (Johnny and Jason) are going to put some more time into the curriculum we need to fill a Saturday and we’ll be posting an official date for after SXSW. Sorry for the confusion!

Speaking of SXSW…it’s in less than 10 days! Over a dozen people from the IndyHall community alone are attending, and we expect to see many more from Philadelphia joining us as well. If you’re going, drop a note in the comments, we want to make sure you’re in on the Philly-in-Austin fun!

If you’re a designer-type, be sure to check out the t-shirt contest our friends at ChoiceShirts are running (ok, ok, I’m helping with that too).

Speaking of t-shirts…I promised some IndyHall shirts, didn’t I? We didn’t forget about you, and it definitely wasn’t a bait and switch to get renewed memberships! That order is going in TODAY. Orders placed by people going to SXSW are going to come in first because we need to have them ready to show IndyHall pride in Austin, but the rest should arrive shortly thereafter. We’ve decided to go with super-comfy American Apparel shirts rather than the ones we had our first batch printed on because most people know how they fit. If you don’t know, AA provides a sizing chart. Just let us know ASAP what size you want, we’re ordering a bunch of different sizes (and womens cut) so we’ll be prepared.

Junto

This week is Junto, by the way. This Thursday a conversation will be led by our very own Dave Speers, and this month’s topic approaches how technology has made our lives better…or has it? I’m bummed to be missing this one myself, but that doesn’t mean you have to! Check it out at Junto.org, as usual things kick off around 6 at P’unk Ave. They bring the tomato pie and beer, you bring a snack (if you like) and your hunger for interesting discussion (and tomato pie).

Rather than write all of this down, I decided to talk for 9 minutes. If you’re willing to stick with me, I wholeheartedly appreciate it. Enjoy.

Coworking SXSWi08 Meetup

Last week we started getting inbound traffic from a new listing that was added to the NotForTourists website. The original “On Our Radar” blurb (seen in the left hand side of belows photo) was humorous but accurate, though unfortunately I cannot find it on the website any longer. In the mean time, you CAN see our listing on their services listing. Also, they sent us this really cool welcome package congratulating us on making their list and even included a sticker to put in our window. What a nice touch! We’re honored to be a part of your directory.

Thanks NFT!

Thanks to the magic of uStream and the playback of Viddler, we’re allowing you to watch ALMOST the whole presentation from last night! For some reason the first 10 minutes or so got chopped…but things kick off around the Pen Tool anyway so you don’t miss much.

Big thanks to the dozen or so who came out for the whole 2 hours last night, and nearly 15 people who watched the remote feed from the website. If you missed any bit, now’s your chance to catch up!

And finally, thanks Johnny for putting together and leading this session.

Feel free to comment on the video or comment below! We’re also looking for feedback for the next and future workshops so let us know what you liked and didnt like!

Note: New links/embeds as of 6:35PM EST PLEASE REFRESH!

Watch as we broadcast tonight’s event! We’re working to increase audio and video quality in the future, the more viewers we have the more likely we can invest in better broadcast equipment.

Tool pallette

Adobe Illustrator is one of the most powerful tools used in the design community, so it is not a surprise that it can be a little intimidating.

Not to worry!

For the February Illustrator workshop we are going to take the app. head on and do a whole session on Tools and Palettes. This session will explore the details around each tool and palette in depth. We will look at best practices, productivity, tips and tricks, shortcuts, etc. We will also be demonstrating the use of Adobe Kuler and ColourLovers and how to create and integrate swatches from these services into your projects and templates.

This workshop is modeled for all skill levels and we are hoping all will come away with a better understanding of Illustrator and it’s capabilities. The workshop will be held at Independents Hall, Wednesday, February, 13th 2008 at 6:30pm. Laptops are not required but can be brought if you would like to participate more interactively. If you have any questions about this or upcoming workshops please post a message to the IndyHall mailing list regarding “illustrator Workshop”. Please RSVP here Hope to see you all there

Thank you for everyone that came out last night to the Philly Seesmic Meetup. And we would like to thank “Bear” for organizing the whole thing.
