As a very event-centric organization, there’s one problem we’ve had that’s been inexcusable for this long: we haven’t had a good shared calendar. Now that events are stacking up to nearly one every night of the week, it’s become a must!

Some months back, Chris Conley started an IndyHall event calendar that I’ve been meaning to merge with my own personal event calendar. I finally got around to doing that, and as of this moment, you can click on the Google Calendar or Subscribe to the iCal feed over on the left, right above our Twitter feed!

Also, for posterity’s sake, the links are:

Cream CheeseAfter a much-to-long hiatus from organizing Cream Cheese Sessions (essentially, since we signed the lease on our permanent coworking space), IndyHall member Jason Tremblay has stepped up to revive them!

Tomorrow, he’ll lead us back to our roots and do some casual coworking from ChapterHouse at 9th and Bainbridge, the site of the first Cream Cheese Sessions back in the spring. This awesome coffee shop is excited to have us, and Jason plans to be there all day with or without you so why not stop by, enjoy a really good cup of coffee, and get some work done!

What’s that? Not going to be in Philly? We’ll be chilling in the campfire room as well, so stop by and say hi!

HUGE thanks to everyone that chimed in and asked for these to be revived, and to Jason for taking the initiative and kicking them off!

Oh, and I hope someone plans to bring a camera and snap some shots of the action, since shots from early Cream Cheese Sessions are limited (hence, me and the bagel above)!

This upcoming Friday IndyHall will be hosting our first official gaming party!! Not that we haven’t had unofficial tourneys on our in-office Wii, but this time, Microsoft has stepped up and will be providing us with 4 gaming units: 2x Halo3, 1x Dance Dance Revolution, and 1x Guitar Hero. Food and drinks will also be provided.

If you’re so inclined, it might be fun to dress like a rockstar for this party (inspired by a recent Guitar Hero party in NYC that I unfortunately had to miss).

Additionally, one of the consoles will be left at IndyHall for future game-fests and everyone’s enjoyment, thanks to Dani Diaz, the local Microsoft Developer Evangelist who’s hooking all of this up! Thanks Dani and Microsoft for suggesting this event that’s bound to be a blast!

Festivities will kick off as soon as the office winds down around 6-6:30, and go until we run out of steam.

We will have to keep an eye on attendance so we don’t overcrowd and everyone gets fair time on the consoles. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE RSVP!

Frag y’all next week!

Hey indies and small businesses, are you using protection? Any time you’re doing business, you should be making sure that you AND your client’s best interests are covered in a contractual document. Many of us have hacked documents together, but would benefit from really knowing what we need to do. Lucky for us, we’re getting some tips from a pro!

Jeffrey C. Neu is a transactional attorney located in Central New Jersey. He specializes in issues involving the internet, technology, and intellectual property. Jeffrey Neu has worked in the IT industry for the last 8 years, and consulted clients from as small as individuals to as large as multi-national corporations.

Jeffrey will be doing a 30-45 minute presentation on what we can do to draft more thorough contracts and do business smarter and safer at IndyHall on December 5th. We’ll mingle from 6-6:30, and he’ll start his presentation at 6:30. Space and seats are limited, so please RSVP on Upcoming.org.

This is one of many similar short-form seminars we hope to have in the coming months. If you have an idea for one you’d like to see, or run yourself, feel free to drop us a line.

Things have been quiet on the blog because I spent the week in Las Vegas at BlogWorldExpo talking about community building using new media/social media tools. More on that experience in the next week, at least what I’m allowed to talk about :-).

In the mean time…we’ve had some totally awesome press while I was away!

First, I did a quick interview for KYW Newsradio last week with John Ostapkovich. The a couple of spots ran on Tuesday the 6th, and John sent me MP3s to share for those that missed:

Unfortunately, Odeo is sucking it up, so I’m going to link directly to locally hosted MP3s.
Enjoy my bandwidth.

Interview 2

Also, Philebrity’s Brian James Kirk hung out here a few weeks back (as did Joey Sweeney himself) and wrote about us in Philebrity’s usual cheeky and borderline offensive tone (who doesn’t love gossip/media bloggers, really?). Realistically, though, if you take Brian’s piece with the appropriate grain of salt, it’s well written and definitely fun to read. Finally, at the complete opposite end of the spectrum of audience, Innovation Philadelphia interviewed Bart and I while I was out of town to include a profile on our project in their monthly newsletter. I think they did a good job of taking the material from the interview, plus more general background from our about page, and sent out a really nice piece. Well done, and thanks to IP!

Paul White, a Temple Fox MBA student and Adam Dotson, an MFA from UArts and current Temple Fox MBA student, are putting together an inaugural chapter of what they are calling a Creative Business Group.

Paul calls this group:

“a community of individuals interested in business thinking and practices for the creative economy.  Our goal is to bring together like minded individuals with diverse
backgrounds from the creative arts and business and to explore creativity and design as drivers for innovation.”

Sounds a whole lot like a student group with shared goals with IndyHall, eh? Well, we’re happy to host them!

Their first meeting is this Friday, 11-2-07, at 6pm at IndyHall. Come by at 6:00 to meet others and mingle, followed by a presentation from Alex (thats me) about the shared goals of Independents Hall and this new student group, then we’ll stroll around Old City to experience First Friday and finally converge at National Mechanics for a cold one.
